Pat Kerr started sketching animals such as Mink, Ermine, and Muskrat, at the age of about 11 Years. He loved the woods and spent much of his time studying it. He didn’t start painting until he was 16; he started with oil paints and completed several painting of animals and birds. Pat was mainly self taught, but studied under Brenton Holmans (since deceased), in Hubbard’s Nova Scotia. Pat gave up painting for the next 18 years while pursuing his career with the Military, but the yearning to paint returned in 1998. He flew to San Miguel De Allende, Mexico where he studied for a month under an American painter called “Keith Keller”. Since that time Pat has painted in his spare time and in 2000 moved to Sheet Harbour.
In Sheet Harbour, he met a local artist named “Sandy Moser”, who introduced him to acrylic paints. He continues to progress in his skill and would like to return to oil paints some day. Pat’s main subjects are, animals, birds, sea and landscapes. Pat returned to Mexico with a group of Nova Scotia Artists for a two week painting stint in the city of San Miguel De Allende. Pat has taken several classes with Ron Decker a well known wildlife artist. Pat hopes to get more time to dedicate to painting.
